Learning How to Say Goodbye

Updated: Oct 29, 2024

The worst thing about dogs is that they don't live long enough. They come into our lives, bring us joy and companionship, and far too soon, they're gone.

Being in this business, we've had to learn to say goodbye to a lot of dogs. It never gets easier. We care for a dog for years, sometimes every single week, and we learn to love and cherish them as much as their owners. And it hits us hard when they're gone, too.

It's even harder to say goodbye to your pet when it has to be your choice. Deciding when it's the right time is always gut-wrenching. We were given some advice by a vet a few years ago that always sticks with me. "It is never a day too soon, but there will always be a day too late."

We love our pets with everything we have, and we don't want them to suffer. We don't ever want it to be a day too late. We had to say goodbye to our oldest dog this last week, and while the decision was hard, and it hurt to say goodbye, it was the right one. He walked into the vet with his tail wagging, happy to see everyone there. He was 14, he hadn't eaten in a few days, and we knew it was time. We refused to drag it out any longer, and risk it being a day too late and him not being himself.

If you have to make this decision for your pet, we're here for you. We see you. We support you. You made the right choice.

In loving memory...
